Question new user and group ssh


hi

im giving my friend an account on my computer so he can ssh into and use

i was wondering what group should i add him to so that he doesnt have root priveleges and he can only do stuff in his own directory

any suggestions?

The users group should suffice for this. You should be as conservative as possible, but as long as you can feel relatively comfortable with him browsing other directories, but not having anything more than read access to them, users should suffice.

There is of course the right way to do this, and that's to create a chroot jail or something similar, and only give him a few commands to have access to. But you may not need to be so extreme if this is just your friend

hrm that sounds intersting and might be usefull for me to learn it
