New to mandriva some questions

I have been running mandriva Live and have since installed mandriva as my main OS, I set my pc up to dual boot Linux & Windows, Linux is my Primary OS

In playing around with it I enabled some destop effects. My question is How to i get them to work? Or better yet how do i use access these enabled effects? I enabled Snow but do not know how to activate it?

Alos what are some other quick keys to play with COMPIZ Fsuion I know the following
Control ALT plus Arrow keys, I want to get the Cube like effect and rotate 180 what are the keys to make this happen.

I know all these questions are silly as i am only trying to Play with my newly enabled capabilities. never the less I would like to know about all these fun gadgets and how to use them

I have been running mandy for five years, never seen this option. Possibly you could explain how you enabled it. What desktop are you running? Gnome, KDE, XFCE or some other.

To get the cube to rotate with the keys, it is Ctrl + Alt + a right or left arrow key.

You have to have it enabled. You can do that from MCC, or form the login screen. You also need an accelerated graphics card also. Without that you will never get it to work. For MCC, open MCC, enter your root password, Hardware, 3D Grahpics. and select Compiz. I believe you need to restart the Xserver. Ctrl + Alt + Backspace will do that. Log in and try it.

Hey thanks for the tip, I had learned that through discovery but forgot how to do it, What About rotating down to see a brids eye view or top of cube?

Also to answer your question I am using Mandy KDE4 I got to the following under system settings

Desktop Settings- Desktop ( under general tab i enabled desktop effects)
Then I clicked or sellected all effects and scrolled down to select Snow, fade, fall apart ect..

How can I activate these? I checked the setting it shows a shortcut as mETA + CNTRL +F12 What is Meta?

Ctrl + Alt + put the mouse pointer on an open part of the desktop, and drag it.

KDE4, I didn't install that, there were toomany problems with it. I'm running KDE 3.5. I did put KDE4 on my laptop, but it ran so slow I swtiched it to XFCE. So, if there is some trick to getting these effects working, possibly someone else will let us know.

Thanks again yes now I remember. Iam trying to enable snow can't figure the shortcut, i have no meta key and the sapce bar nor windows icon work.

I was not aware that KDE 4 had problems. When I was using the Live cd's I liked KDE better than GNOME not sure of the advantage or disadvantage of either of them. I will keep loking. thank you for the help.

I am sol don Linux and very happy with the distro I have.

If it wasn't for my Spouse being emotionally attached to using Windows I would completely Format unistall windows and just use Mandi
