new to linux : x window text editor

first and foremost hello
I have installed fedora core 4.
i would like to know what is the default text editor for xwindow? other than emacs.. xedit is not available and I have to edit some files and emacs is too complicated to use.

what is the command to delete a folder or a file in a folder?

that's all for now.. thank you .

well, any ascii text reading app will edit your text files...kword, openoffice, etc etc.

to remove files:

rm filename

to remove empty folder:

rmdir foldername

to remove full folder

rm -r foldername

Hi,
Use vim, it is quite powerful and easy to learn. There is a nice tutorial that comes with it.

rm <filename>
rmdir <dir>

Mind to add a space after the 'rm' and 'rmdir' commands.

Have a look at : man rm.

Cheers

gedit is also a good one, a little more gui than vim. Be careful with rm command, there is no "recycle bin" it is a permanent delete. Also, if you want to remove a dir with a lot of stuff in it use the rm -f option to no be constantly asked wheter or not you want to delete it.

I think some basic google skills are lacking here.

for an editor you could use gedit or gvim
