New to Linux

Hi Linux Questions Members,

I am new to Linux, using Zorin 6 for about 2 months. Our home computer was running Windows XP and it got so slow, and I looked into Linux. So far my old computer runs must faster and I am enjoying exploring using the terminal commands as suggested on forums like this. The Zorin OS is easy to understand for a newbie like me. (Not an ad, just an opinion.)

I was able to lose my desktop panels and tool bars but found them with help from the Zorin Forum. I look forward to getting ideas here and there going forward.

It seems that people share their hardware, so here's what I found out with a terminal command, which I don't remember:
Compaq-Presario
Product Name: KY821AA-ABA CQ5110Y
Manufacturer: Hewlett-Packard
Desktop 32-bit
Socket Designation: Socket AM2
Central Processor
Athlon X2
AMD 7550 Dual-Core Processor
VGA compatible controller: NVIDIA Corporation C61 [GeForce 6150SE nForce 430] (rev a2)

The video card was my only real issue when downloading Zorin after a live trial. (What a great idea trying it out live is!) I searched all over the internet for suggestions and found a download, using another terminal command, that fixed the issues immediately.

I enjoy the camaraderie in the forums and I thank you all in advance for your help.

For an older machine, definately linux. The malware, spyware, constant updates of windows is irritating. Linux is said to be like learning a foreign language, learn away. I am a new 2.
