New to Everything Linux and IT Which Cert RHCT or RHCSA

Hi All,Not just a newbie to Linux but to IT also. I started in IT (Security) 6 months +- with no experience (bkgd is in electronics). Always had an interest but never took the steps and never thought about the Security side, but I must say I’m enjoying it.Now for my situation, I have a Security + cert but need more (1 OS & 1 Net). Most of our servers are running RHEL5 & 4 with a few Wins sprinkled in (their being converted to RHEL5). So which cert RHCT or RHCSA? I’m thinking RHCSA but will my studies pertain to RHEL5 as well? Thank you for your help

Hi there,

Welcome to LQ!!!

Congratulations on getting your first job. As you said that you are into security I would say it will be a good idea to go with CCNA Security cert for the base. Later on you can go for CCNP security if you would like.

For Redhat part I would say that RHCT is no longer available as far as I know. Instead, they now have RHCSA and RHCE on RHEL 6. If you are worried that you have hands on experience on RHEL 5 and not on RHEL6 I would say that there is little difference between both the versions. If you have good knowledge of configuring services on RHEL 5 then it will be quite easy for you to adapt with RHEL6.

If you have more queries please post it in this thread.
