Hi and welcome to LQ

Where do I start....hmm. Probably the best way of learning linux is by using it. Whenever you are stuck with something SPECIFIC, do not hesitate to post a question.
In the mean time you can start reading
http://rute.2038bug.com/index.html.gz
or google some linux beginner's tutorials.

This is also a nice thread about Fedora beginners:

Have fun

Guessing from your distro icon on the post, you are using Fedora. If you are trying to compare it with windows, take notice. Linux IS NOT windows. You need to unlearn windows and start learning Linux. There are a lot of good tutorials available around on the net. You could start off from The Linux Documentation Project or rute's tutorial. For your distribution specific documentation, Fedora Doc Project is a good starting point.

Hi,

We can understand your situation. While learning Linux one does tend to learn as much as possible in short spam of time.
But from our practical experience we can say that it will take some time.So don't lose hope and try following only a single book or a tutorial on linux.
Learn step by step.
And if you find it very difficult do let us know your problems we will help you.

Prayag's statement here is very valid - try to follow a single good book or tutorial to get you going with the basics - starting out with too much reference material is going to confuse the living daylights out of you. And remember, if you get stuck, thats what LQ is for :D

Thank you all for you comments and answers. I just want to start with plugins and YUM. I want to listen songs and to see videos. kindly help me in this and tell me how to install and configure the plugins required.
I even want to make my desktop a 3D (Beryl i think so)
I am trying to learn but every word in this OS is a confusing one. Not like Windows.

For 3d effects what you need is compiz. You need to install compizconfig-settings-manager for configuring compiz. It is available in the repositories for Fedora.
On how to use yum, see man yum. The basic syntax for yum is yum install <package-name> to install your required package. You can install multiple packages in one go as well.

For the video files you need to go to
http://www.rpmfusion.org/
and follow their instructions on enabling their repository. Then you can use yum to install
gst-streamer-plugins-good
gst-streamer-plugins-bad
gst-streamer-plugins-ugly
gnome-mplayer
The plugins will give you support for all media formats and the player is rather better at using them than totem. If you need to play commercial DVDs, get the codec for that from
http://rpm.livna.org/
