New Mandrake 10 installation & questions.
 

Hello,

I've used a bit of Redhat in the past mainly to see if I could replace my MS desktop with Linux. Now I've decided to try again and I installed Mandrake 10 (thanks to uselinux.co.uk) and it's all gone very nicely. No hitches so far, KDE works, got the internet, can see all my NTFS drives and everything is hunky dorey A-OK!

I have a few obvious questions:

1. I'd like to remote admin to my box from work. I've been reading up about SSH sessions which is all fine as I can use putty once I get my head round it but what do I do if I want to use a GUI? I'm not *too* worried about security as we have a pretty decent firewall at home (flatmate works in net admin for a local ISP) and we're locked down tight here at work. So would VNC suffice or is there an alternative I could use?

2. What would be the best ftp server/daemon for a newb like me?

3. Could someone recommend a good file browser? I've been looking at Amulet Explorer which looks pretty good and easy to configure.

4. Same goes for BitTorrent and any P2P apps (yaarrr pieces of 8!)

1. ssh is awesome...don't use telnet...big security hole

2. pure-ftpd has served me well

3. konqueror, opera, netscape...

4. gnutella is a bit of a pain to install but if you go on google(google is your friend) and search for gnutella linux you will get a lot for p2p
