New linux use with lots of questions.

Im a new Linux user. I managed to remove windows xp and install Fedora Core 10 on my Acer Aspire one. My question is that I want to learn programming I've been trying to figure out where to i actually enter in my code. Do i use the terminal or is there another program that i should be using? I want to learn C and Perl. I read with perl you have to start out with #!/usr/bin/perl, but after that then what?

Any help and recommended reading would be greatly appreciated. If i posted this in the wrong forum I apologize

Like on windows, you would need an editor to write all the programs. If you are comfortable with terminal, you can use vim. It supports a lot of languages and syntax highlighting. Another light weight but very powerful IDE is Geany. It should be available through the repositories.
