New Laptop now i need a Disto to load on it.

i have tried the following and they dont work on my laptop.

Slackware 8: No sound other than that just fine tried to recomple the kernel but it doesnt seem to fix the sound issue. CRUSE U AC97 CODEC!!!!

Slackware 8.1: Cant even get the cd to boot up on its own.

Slackware 8.1 beta: wont find video card but slackware 8 could thats just too odd for words.

Red Hat 8: cant get higher than 800x600 and my mouse isnt working that well in it.

Next up:
Red Hat 7.3

also I am running a hp ZE 1210

does anyone have a disto that works right from the start. Because i never had this many issues with linux on my desktop. I mean the only one that worked pretty good was slackware 8

Well first, have you checked the hardware compatibilities with Linux that this laptop has ?? Have you checked out www.linux-laptop.net ?? Lots of good information there, look up your laptop and see if anyone has successfully installed Linux on it before.

I use Xandros on my lappy. It detected everything. Although I do not believe Xandros is not released for another week or two.... I have it because I'm a beta tester, but it's quite nice. I suggest you give it a shot when it comes out. Oh, you may wanna try it on your big rig too....
