Hi...

Welcome to the forum

You might want to read here first.

Please note that Ubuntu 10.04 is no longer being supported by Canonical. This means you most likely will not be receiving any security updates for the operating system or other software. You might want to install a newer, up-to-date version of Ubuntu. If you have an older system, you can try a lightweight distribution such as Zorin OS 9 Lite or Lubuntu. If you'll give us the brand and model name (and number) of your computer, we can better suggest a distribution.

In terms of sites to help you learn about Linux, just go to Google and type in something like "beginners guide to linux." There's plenty of resources available to look through. See one example here.

Also, here at LQ, you can take a look at the tutorials page here.

Regards...

Hi jack070.

Here are 2 good pdf guides for Ubuntu 10.04 and Linux

Getting Started With Ubuntu 10.04:

http://files.ubuntu-manual.org/manua...%20Edition.pdf

Introduction to Linux - A Hands on Guide:

http://www.tldp.org/LDP/intro-linux/intro-linux.pdf

These 2 books should help you. Please let me know if there is anything else I may be able to do.

jack070,

Welcome to LQ.

Ubuntu 10.04 is no longer supported.

You need to use an up-to-date version such as Ubuntu 14.04 or Linux Mint 17.2 which is based on Ubuntu 14.04.

Mint uses a desktop (MATE, Cinnamon or Xfce) with the more traditional expandable menus seen on XP and W7, whereas Ubuntu 14.04 uses the Unity desktop.

It is simply a matter of personal preference.

Linux Mint 17.2:

Ubuntu 14.04:
http://www.everydaylinuxuser.com/201...en-better.html

Both the above are supported until 2019.

Installation guide for Linux Mint:
http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/faq/id...nt-system.html

It would be helpful if you could give us more information on your hardware and whether you have a 32 or 64 bit system currently.

By the way, we do not use text speak on LQ.

Welcome aboard.

If you want a better experience, try AntiX MX, & it has its own very good documentation.

Hey.. Ubuntu 10.04 is too old for now. I recommend Linux Mint which is very user friendly for someone new to Linux.

As other members have stated, you should get a newer Ubuntu to allow better security awareness.

I don't think you should be posting links to torrents for commercial items. Reported
