New bee question

Hi, i am a new bee in linux.i have some question to ask here.
(1).i have a streaming video server.may i know which raid is most suitable for this server?

(2).Am i correct that dma is apply for sound card also?

(3).May i know how to use vi to search a particular word and replace it for the first 30 occurance? i only know to use /s/original/replacement this to replace all the word i want..

(4).May i know where to find the resources on how to identify the vulnerabiliteis in linux services?

(5).After i have issue the tune2fs command to change from ext2 to ext3. does i still need to edit /etc/fstab to change it to ext3 again?
TQ.

The new bee needs to report to the queen bee.

1. RAID has nothing to do with streaming media.
2. Depends on the soundcard.
3. You may. You'll probably have better luck with awk or perl.
4. You may. You subscribe to the forums dealing with these things for the software you have.
5. Yes. Otherwise haw will linux know to update the journal?

Please read the tutorials for LQ - especially on how to write a question. Also read the advise in my sig.

Please update your profile to show your location and distro.
Thank you.

(3) vim commands to replace

Hi,

For (3):
I don't know of any "vi" option to search and replace only for the first 30 occurrences. But you may try the following:
a) :1,5s/from/to/g
The above "vi" command will replace in lines starting from 1 to 5.

b) :%s/from/to/gc
This will basically promt you before replacing. But it doesn't seem to give you a count.

You may also refer (you may search and download with this name) "doc_a4m.pdf"

Regards,
Ebin.
