I found a Linux app for scriptwriting (um, films, not computers ) that might prove very useful. I downloaded it to my data partition (NOT a Linux partition...after having had to reformat and reinstall Windows umpteen times, I put in an additional hd from my old pc to use for documents so it'd be less work if I had to do it again). I finally found where I can see the folder from within Linux. But now I'm stuck...

I assume I should move it into the Linux partition to install it, but where? And once I do, then what?

Oh, I've got Linux Mandrake 8.1 and I was in Konquerer when I was able to see the folder, if that helps.

Please help me on my path to a less Windows-infested world.

I have another question about a reference book, but I guess that's another thread....

first off tell us what the file is. I mean what is the extension? is it .tar.gz or .tgz or .rpm ?

And copy the file to your linux partition it is easier to do there.

After we know what the file is - shortly will be a solution. We don't need the whole file name just the extension.

It's me again. I forgot to mention that, due to my having a winmodem, I'm not able to connect to the Net from within Linux (yet...). Don't know if that makes any difference or not....

I'm not sure what the .bz2 is, but there's a .tar in there. I'm guessing the 0.2.1 is the version of the app, but since I really don't know if it's that or some other info (or if it's relevant), here's the whole file name:

ScriptWriter-0.2.1.tar.bz2

A .tar.bz2 file is a compressed archive, similar to a .zip file in windows. They can contain binary (precompiled) programs or source code (programs that you have to compile yourself). Do "bunzip2 ScriptWriter-0.2.1.tar.bz2" followed by "tar -xvf ScriptWriter-0.2.1.tar" to completely extract the file.
