Never installed a program before. How do I work with Redhat 9 RPMs ?

I have a redhat 9 machine and I don't know how to use rpm files ?

I wanted to patch xmms to allow mp3's (what a joke)

I also want to install mplayer some time. What would the procedure be to go about this ?

I did a search but found nothing usefull.

If and when you find the rpm files you simply install them like so:

rpm -i filename.rpm
