Angry Networking Problem

Hi again guys, got a little problem.

Just got my masquerading running, now my Win98 box can access the internet through my Linux box. Samba's up and running, and I can freely ping back and forth between the two machines.

My win98 box can log in to the Samba shares, but my Mandrake 9.1 box cannot access the shared directory on my Win98 box. It used to be able to. It seems to be a mounting problem - even though it appears in the mount list as:

"//david/SHAREDDOCS on /mnt/SHAREDDOCS type smbfs (0)"

there is no SHAREDDOCS directory in file:mnt/ when viewing from konqueror as I would expect. When trying to configure with DiskDrake, it exits with the error:

"mkdir: error creating directory /mnt/SHAREDDOCS: File exists"

and when attempting to open the directory with the icon on the KDE desktop, I get:

"The file or directory /mnt/SHAREDDOCS does not exist."

If I try and access it from a su console, I can enter the directory, but when I type "dir" I get:

"[root@Mandrake SHAREDDOCS]# dir
dir: .: Stale NFS file handle"

Does anyone have any ideas what may be causing this paradox?

ARRGH! Computers are like wallpaper - push one bubble down and another comes up somewhere else!

Peace

PS, there are no screaming [FAILED] messages on boot either. It says that the SMB mounting, shorewall and NFS system load correctly. using "shorewall clear" doesn't help, either.

Oh, and I can't umount it either. Linux reckons it's busy.

Right. Clarification!

I managed to delete the SHAREDDOCS directory using a su Nautilus (I also checked that the files were no longer there in a console). I went back into Mandrake control centre, ran diskdrake to mount the Samba mount point, Diskdrake detected it, started the mount process, and appears to mount it.
When the "Done" button is pressed, it spits out:

"mkdir: Error creating directory /mnt/SHAREDDOCS : File already exists"
