You only require a Samba client, not a Samba server to access windows files from a linux system.

Samba clients are included in most distros, and do not require much, if any configuring. You need to supply some informaiton.

What Distro, version etc.

What desktop? KDE Gnome etc.

Can you ping the windows system from linux? This needs to work in both directions. Open a konsole, run the command 'ping ipaddrressofwindowssystem' ( without quotes ) and the dotted decimal address of the windows system.

Post back and we can go from there, depending on results.

It is not clear if you are accessing the samba server from a client, or from one client to another client.

Could you please clarify.
