I am trying to network a Win98, a Win XP (Home), and a Suse 10 (retail) machine. I changed my Suse to match the same workgroup name, and I can currently see the two Win machines. However when I go to browse the Win boxes, I can't. I have narrowed it down to the firewall in Suse, because when I disable it, I can roam around the Win shares with no problem. I need to have the two Win boxes connect to the Suse so they can print. How do I set the firewall to allow all this? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I realize this is not related to your question but how and where can you see your Win shares ? is it in Nautilus ?
In order for your win boxes to see Suse you will have to install and configure the Samba server. sry, cant say more than that, i am in the process of getting it up and running myself.
I have success with the WinXP machine, but not the Win98 machine. My Linux machine can browse the 98, but not the other way around. I have turned off the firewall, and there was no difference. I now suspect it is how Samba is configured.
