Network printing - Debian and Mac

Hi, I am a Debian Sarge newby user with KDE. We have a home network, with my Debian and my partner's Mac OSX. We have an Epson Stylus Color 880 connected to my Debian, and I am trying to connect the Mac to the printer the network.

I am not familiar with OSX. The Mac tells me that my computer may not allow connections from within the network. I have tried to find out how to allow the computer to do so through the control panel in KDE. It hasn't worked.

I also tried downloading netatalk package to adapt Linux system to the Appletalk remote protocol. It didn't work either.

Can anyone help a clueless newby here?

You need to install CUPS on both systems. You'll find info on CUPS for Apple here . You will need to configure the Apple to print via the network.

Here is what I did:
1) Setup your printer using CUPS on the Debian Box, and print a test page.

2) Add a new printer on the Mac using CUPS. I set the "Device" to be "Internet Printing Protocol (http)". The Device URI should be http://hostname:631/printers/Printer. Print another test page to make sure all is well.

Printer is the name of the print queue on my Debian Box - Replace it with the name of yours. Hostname can also be the IP address of your Debian Box.

I hope this helps
