Network Manager Disappeared!!

Hi there guys (and gals)...

Have been having some ongoing issues with my set up that I have trying to resolve myself.. (my VPN Connection stopped working some time ago, and was highlighting DNS problems and also some problems with isc-dhcp-server), also upgraded to Linux Mint KDE 14 from KDE 13, then in the hope of solving my issues I reinstalled a load of the network manager packages from the .deb files, things seemed to be going ok (isc-dhcp-server issues seemed to have been resolved) but all of a sudden the network manager icon just disappeared along with my connection... canīt think of anything in particular I did at the time to initiate this... have tried uninstalling Network Manager, NM KDE, and plasma widget NM, and then reinstalling again from .deb files, but to no avail...

Please could someone please help as canīt think what else to try...

Thanks in advance...

Adam

There could be a few things that can cause this but first I want to make sure that you know that NetworkManager is not required to setup your network or VPN connectivity. This can all be done manually.

You are using the Gnome desktop correct? Why are you manually installing .deb files and not using the repositories and apt-get?

have you tried an apt-get install network-manager-gnome?

Re.. Network Manager

Ok Thanks... well, I didnīt actually know that Network Manager is not required for a connection - Iīve always connected to the internet using it, and when mu VPN connection worked, I always used network manager to connect the VPN server. I only used the .deb files as I thought I was forced to download these separately on another machine as my Mint 14 KDE machine was offline. Using the KDE desktop, btw... and yes I have been using apt-get and synaptic wherever possible...

Still afaics, I still have no internet connection available on my machine, so....

Would REALLY appreciate any further suggestions...

Thanks,

Adam

I don't know if this will work for you, but I apt-get install bluetooth, it gave me back the NW Icon.
