Network Connection in Sleep/Standby Mode
 

I recently performed my first install of RH 7.2 and successfully setup dhcpd and NAT via iptables. Everything seems to work fine until my computer goes into "sleep" mode.

For some reason, after being idle for about 5 minutes, the screen goes dark and the hard drive stops spinning. This makes it so my client machines no longer have a connection to the network because they don't even get a response when trying to ping the linux gateway. It seems when my linux box goes into "sleep" mode, even the network connections are inaccessible. But as soon as I "wake" the computer by just typing something on the keyboard, everything works fine.

I don't ever remember setting anything up telling the OS to go to pause after a certain amount of idle time and I haven't been able to figure out how to configureit otherwise. Maybe I'm just missing something in the terminology department. What are the different modes that linux operates in? (Sleep, Standby, Shutdown, Alive?) How can I make it so that my network operates 24/7.

Two things
1 BIOS apm needs to be disabled
2 RH7.2 has a system settings option inNautilus, in there is a services control. Disable apmd there.
Then the box should keep on spinning.
