well I do not use fedora but can you name your hardware?

brand model of modem or router/modem?

How does it connect?

Is it usb or ethenet (lan) socket on your computer?

what steps did you try?

is your hardware detected at bootup? see /var/log/dmesg

or if usb, at plugin time see /var/log/syslog

megha6788 10-31-2007 04:01 AM

its SMARTAX MT882 (modem)
connected to USB.....i haven't chked tat /var/log/syslog
i'll let u know about that!!!!
what i did was dis
network-config--->new-->xdsl-->(den i got to see eth0(globespanvirata smartAX mt882)-->den provider name(broadband)--->usrname-->pswrd-->automatically detect ip address(dhcp)--->activated after dis-->error(could not activate network device broadband)

this appears to be a modem/router and may have eth card aka lan connection aka cat5 connection instead of usb?

see Scott's reply here http://forums.broadbandbuyer.co.uk/f...?TID=5341&PN=1

linux should be easier with eth card connection than usb

aus9 11-01-2007 10:59 PM

BTW found this page from a diff link and it suggests linux is ok probably due to cat5 cable

http://members.driverguide.com/drive...riverid=503416

its the manual page so highly recommend you read it

megha6788 11-02-2007 12:30 PM

The problem lies in the installation of USB drivers for linux fedora 7
i have a cd which came with my modem...it had linux driver (usb) for
MT882
i tried the installation following user guide but it failed when i went for make all in terminal!
i guess their is a problem with the USB driver i'm trying to install and the kernel......does any one have USB driver for linux
(MT882)
i have googled out but did'nt actually got a free downlaod!!!!
so if sum 1 can???

aus9 11-02-2007 10:07 PM

restart your terminal or shell or konsole or whatever you call it.

su (or sudo to get root powers)

then run make or make all if that is the instruction and post the errors here.

It is possible you are just missing a dependency? (a program required b4 the install works)

EDIT

so do you NOT have a lan cable?

so did you read the manual ?

tell me if u can see it now?????

aus9 11-04-2007 06:07 PM

i see them

1) its the makeall that concerns me most but leaping to the other stuff you have a number of issues including the fact that Mdv and SELinux are not correctly configged. BTW I do not use it so can not offer any advice on it.

2) can you point me to the download file you tried to compile or upload it to divshare and I will have a go at compiling it.

I am not concerned that I do not have the hw, I want to see what errors I get as I know my hw and my software

aus9 11-04-2007 06:20 PM

sidetrack

this is howto on selinux

http://www.lurking-grue.org/gettings...inuxHOWTO.html

have you considered disabling the service and then compiling? and then relabelling?

(I use the words but the I still do not use the app)

thats what all is usb driver.....
can u see that???...... divshare jus did'nt open up in my browser!!!
go to free-->download via level3-->n u should see em then!

aus9 11-05-2007 05:10 AM

yes thanks can see,

but that makefile is a 2.4 series and other file suggests it was made in 2002.

I can not compile it on my 2.6 series altho experts in programming may.

b4 you ask a mod to move this to a programming forum, can you confirm where you got that driver from.....surely there must be a more recent one?
