At the command prompt How can i find my network card type and hard disk capacity

lspci will tell you output about your devices like ethernet and df will tell you the size of your hard disk, partition sizes, etc.

Well, either edit your XFree86 or Xorg config file, whichever you have installed or fire up the command line utility to configure it.. xf86config or xorgconfig..
