network card speed settings

Hi

I have Suse Linux server version and I am trying to find out

the attributes of the network card, such as speed etc.

I have tried ifconfig eth0 but id doesn;t show me any information.

If I can I would also like to change the speed to 100 full duplex.

cheers

Aslam

hi,
type
dmesg|less
and look through the output for lines containing eth

to set parameters for your card first do lsmod and see if you can detect which drivers your card is using.
for example an ether express card would use the eepro module.
then type
modinfo <module name>
this will show you what parameters can be passed to the module.

then add this info to /etc/modules.conf
like so
for example (rtl 8139 card --> uses 8139too module)
in modules.conf find the line alias eth0 8139too (or whatever module) and change it to
alias eth0 8139too full_duplex=8

next time you reboot or unload and reload the module the parameters will be set.

regards
