Question network Address subnet mask

Hi Everyone,

I am going through DNS configuration, and get stuck with subnet masking and IP addressing fundas...
Could anyone expalin in gentle terms what is subnet mask, for e.g, 192.168.10.0/24 is containing network address, subnet mask, 24 bit high...etc as I was told by others.
How to figure these things out ????

Thank You.
kapil

Hi,

'5. IP Addresses, Subnet Masks, and Subnetting' section of 'Daryl's TCP/IP Primer' has some good reference.

These links and others can be found at 'Slackware-Links'. More than just SlackwareŽ links!
