Network access via name & IP + Samba

Well hello again I am here again to ask for the help of all you wise folk so u can laff at us very small folk :)

ok managed to get a local webserver running with coldfusion, mysql etc etc basically so our company cms can have a development server to test on.

This is prob one very simply set of questions which i can't seem to figure out simply because it has to be so obvious ive missed it somehow!

Firstly i would like to be able to access the webserver across the network via a name ie http://devserver instead of having to type in http://10.0.0.7 i hope you can help me with this one.

Next I would like to be able to access other computers on the network (which are windows machines) however i have no idea where to enter the workgroup details if i need to or whether i have to or how to configure samba to do this. Samba is running, however unlike SuSE i cant seem to find a "network browser" type application.

I am using Enterprise ES 3 btw.

Thanx in advance for any help or assistance.

Accessing the webserver by its hostname depends on the way you have DNS setup on your LAN. Do you have a hostname set for the server?

Secondly, you need some sort of Samba client browser to browse your windows workgroup. I use smb4k.

the hostname is set to localhost.localdomain, when i put that into the browser it simply says page cannot be found.

is there a smb4k for gnome or equivilent program?
