netselect-apt problem -- claims I'm "behind firewall"

Hi,

trying to solve some other problems with my install, and figure I should start with a functioning aptitude installation. Right now I can never seem to find anything. Anyway, tried to run netselect, and got the following:

Quote:

Choosing a main Debian mirror using netselect.
Running netselect to choose 1 out of 1 address.

netselect was unable to find a mirror, this probably means that
you are behind a firewall and it is blocking traceroute.
I checked out 192.168.1.1, but my router reports that I have no firewall running. Is there some default debian firewall that could be blocking this? My router is a Linksys WRT54G, if that helps the diagnosis. Thanks!

It may well be your distro firewall blocking you. Most distro's install a firewall by default.

What does "iptables -L" return? iptables is a very common Linux firewall. Also, are you able to reach any of the mirrors found in that file via a ping?
