netflix running slow
Hi
I think I have everything that I know of for netflix to work. I have checked pipelight. It's ok. But for some reason it is still buffering. Any ideas? |
Maybe I should give some more detail.
I have a duel boot xp/lubuntu 12.04. netflix works great in xp, really irritating since I hope to never have to use it again. my computer is a ibm t42. |

Assuming you are running netflix through web browser? Curious how you even got it to run? Netflix site FAQ supports only Mac and Windows and I haven't been able to make it run successfully in IE8/Firefox on Wine due to Silverlight dependencies. Apparently I need to go read up on 'pipelight'

I just put netflix on a newer dell lap top. It took me about 5 minutes. It works great.
So maybe the problem is some setting on my older computer. If you have any ideas, please try to be specific. Is I am a newbie. One other question, what the heck is the difference between sudo and nano. P.S. I ran the diagnostic for pipelight, everything is working. |

nano is a text editor. sudo allows you to run a single command as (effectively) root user. For instance "sudo reboot". Sometimes you might use the two commands together. For instance, if you wanted to edit /etc/fstab you likely need root permissions, so you could do "sudo nano /etc/fstab". Not sure about your Netflix problem, I don't use Netflix or Pipelight. If it's buffering it could be a network issue, if it's lagging/unsynced it could be Pipelight or it could be a video card driver issue. Do flash (YouTube etc) videos play without issue? |

Have you seen this new method? http://www.omgubuntu.co.uk/2014/08/n...upport-plugins Might be worth a try?

Thanks everyone for your support. I checked out the website mentioned in #9. Unfortunately my computer is to old to run that vertion of ubuntu.
So it looks like, for netflix, I will have to switch over to the darkside and use ms. |
