NetBeans Display Problem

Hello,

This is Fedor 11 box.

I checked that DISPLAY=:0.0. I have checked that JAVA_HOME and installed JDK perfectly.

I downloaded netbeans-6.7.1-ml-linux.sh and did following:
./netbeans-6.7.1-ml-linux.sh
It started to install IDE for Netbeans; after 4-5 seconds display becomes zig-zag and i am not able to read installation instruction.

./netbeans-6.7.1-ml-linux.sh --verbose
It again started for installation and after displaying message; again there a windows popup and the same display becomes zig-zag.

I have tried with both users i.e. with root and non-root user.
If i says xhost + then it says "access control disabled, clients can connect from any host"

Kindly help me to get resolve issue with display zig-zag.

Thanks & Regards
Girish Sharma

There is no actual connection between installing NetBeans and the X display configuration -- unless you are logged into X windows as root (a very bad idea).

So I think the display problem isn't related to the installation you were making. But try this approach -- open a shell while logged on as an ordinary user, and:

Code:
$ sudo ./netbeans-6.7.1-ml-linux.sh
Again, there should not be any strange display behaviors resulting from installing NetBeans. OH -- unless you have not installed the current Java runtime engine. Be SURE to install the current Java runtime engine from http://java.com before installing NetBeans.

Fedora 11 comes with an experimental open-source Java runtime engine that is not suitable for NetBeans or general development work. To determine if you are using the right Java engine, do this:

Code:
$ java -version
The response should be something like:

Code:
java version "1.6.0_07"
Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.6.0_07-b06)
Java HotSpot(TM) Server VM (build 10.0-b23, mixed mode)
Once you have this response or one like it, you can proceed to install NetBeans.

Thanks for your reply.

Code:
$ sudo ./netbeans-6.7.1-ml-linux.sh
The same problem, it run for 5-6 seconds and again display messed up / zig-zagged. Earlier the user was not in sudoers file so i edited /etc/sudoers file and below root i added the user name:
oracle ALL=(ALL) ALL

Code:
[oracle@localhost netbeans]$ java -version
java version "1.6.0_16"
Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.6.0_16-b01)
Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (build 14.2-b01, mixed mode, sharing)
But still the same problem.

Thanks & Regards

There is no connection whatever between Java and the problem you are experiencing.Your system may be running out of resources or have a video driver fault, but Java cannot make your display go crazy without other factors being involved. What I mean is, the Java connection is coincidental and a symptom, not a cause.
