Net send WIN to Linux????

Dear all
I want to use net send from Window computer to Linux. How can I do?

Please help!!!

kingka 04-14-2004 02:12 AM

can you explain what this is?
never heard of net send, is it something like file sharing or ftp?

gold5angel 04-14-2004 02:19 AM

Net send means that we can send one small message from Window to Window.
ex: "Hey KingKa, It 's time to go lunch??"
However, I want to send from Win to Linux.

take a look at this

http://www.linuxquestions.org/questions/history/163645

you will need to install "samba" for it to work

edit: from windows to linux will be more difficult, I don't know if you can configure samba that way that it becomes possible, maybe (as it is said in the thread) try 'write' or 'talk'

Oh I knew that, but i want to send from WIN to LINUX, not LINUX TO LINUX!!

If you had read the post you would have seen it is about messaging between windows and linux. Anyhow to send messages from windows to linux with net send you can use SAMBA, yo will have to mess around with the smb.conf file tho. Read this
http://au1.samba.org/samba/docs/man/smbclient.1.html

the quoted thread explains how to send from LINUX to WIN, as I told you: I guess to send from WIN to LINUX you will need to do some configuration of samba (see the post of dopefish)

and for the next time: think of google and the search function on this forum

Kingka,
I agree with you completely about using google. That having been said, did you google "net send" :) As a test, I did - the first result I got was spot on (although I knew about net send, I purely checked as a result of your comment about googling for answers :) )

Cheers

@ JoAnywhere
yes but net send does not send to linux unless you've got samba running on the linux machine and have it configured right

How to configure samba server to recieve net send messages

Dopefish,
I am aware of the configuration issues surrounding NET SEND and Linux.

My point was that Kingka was urging people to use google, or the forum search to look for answers to questions (which btw I totally agree with). However, Kingka had already asked a question that EASILY answered by using google (his question being 'what is NET SEND').

Cheers

my mistake

Oops... something must have snapped my mind, I am sorry!
But you know, looking for this windows-kinda stuff on google :tisk: ...
Suppose I would have searched "net-send" on google (without adding "linux" or so), I might had come to a website that leads back to the dark-side (*feels darth vader breathing in his neck, as he is sitting at his mothers windows machine*) ... Websites discussing windows stuff are always so obscurious :p
