net dies all the time
Im using mandrake 9.1 anyone know why the net dies every few hrs when ts running of linux ?
I dont have it set to come up on demand its set to be always on |
Well here are a few questions:
Do you have a firewall/router? When using Linux, do you usually have some program that always uses the net (f.e a irc client)? The reason I ask this is because I know with my ISP if I am inactive for a few hours they turn down my Internet speed to give to people who will actually use it. I use to have to restart my computer to get full speed back up, thought it was just Windows :) Anyway, my firewall/router changed that, because it would I guess trick them into thinking I'm still using the net. Something like a IRC client may help, as it'll always be sending and receiving information. Hope this helps :) |
umm no
im on adsl its always been up 24/7 |
ok guys I really need help with this.
Im on mandrake 9.1 this is how my set up is. 2 nics in linux, 1 for dsl, other for gateway for other 2 xp pc's not sure whats going on, but everytime the net (adsl) is on linux box little while later it dies, and wont start up, I take net out put it into xp and works perfectly never drops off. I got people who can't use the net cause its always dying. when i try and bring it back up by typing usual, adsl-start I get this: ..........TIMED OUT /usr/sbin/adsl-start: line 194 Terminated $CONNECT "$@" >/dev/null 2>&1 this mean anything to anyone ? I really dont understand why net dies so much from linux box when it has networked pc's to it, (not sure if it still dies, without networked pc's) didnt 2 days ago... I dont have my connection set up to time out or for net to drop off when there is no activity... also i should be able to adsl-start if net dies to bring it back, but no go. Idea's/suggestions, Please. |
arggg no one know ?

Well I still think its what I said, maybe Windows does something to keep your connection alive ...
If thats not it you should probably check to make sure your network settings in Linux is set up right. |
