Need Web Server Help

I am new to using linux and I am trying to setup a webserver at my house. Now with that said I am running Redhat 9.0 and I have copied my website over into /var/www/ and I can see it by hitting the localhost in the web browser but I can not hit the site using any other computer on the network by using the servers ip. Can someone please tell me what I am doing wrong and how to go about fixing it?

Also what services do you have to have installed / running for php based programs on the site such as oscommerce & phpbb2? I have copies of both already up on the server and I just want to make sure that I have everything needed to run them.

Thanks in advance,

Lee

I would first check to see if your firewall is blocking port 80. Also if you list what distro your using somone could give you commands.

Are you talking about the firewall on the linux box or the firewall for the network? What is distro?

The linux firewall would be the first start, then on to the network firewall. A distro is a distribution what flavor of linux are you using IE: fedora,mandrake,debian,slackwarem.....

It is just redhat version 9.0. I totally forgot that linux has a firewall built in, I bet that is my problem.

Anyone have any info on what I need to do for the php stuff?

Firewall

That was why I couldn't SSH into my RH box. There's a GUI tool in the Start Menu....System Settings, Secruity Level...I think that's how I did it....my Newbiness is pretty fresh, but I hope this helps.

BTW...what's php stuff?

Do me a big favor and get a newer release of fedora. At least C2 as some people say C3 is got bugs, but I am using it as a production domino mail server and it is working fine.

Ok after disabling the firewall on the linux box and checking the router to make sure that port 80 is open I still can reach the server from any other computer on the network using the ip to test the web server. Any other suggestions? Please help me because this is starting to get annoying quick!

Please, I need help figuring out why I can't get it to work.

Besides the firewall in Linux, there may another firewall from the ISP.
I use SBC DSL, and i need to open the port 80 from my home portal.

Hope that helps.

Whoa...you say that you can't get it by ip address either. Thats a whole nother problem. Now the reason that your domain names are resolving is that you don't have a DNS server setup. To get around this use your host file file. If you do not know what you host file does I can show you how to setup it.
