Need to update my Kernel!

Hi guys,

I have Mandrake 9.2 and I would like to update my Kernel to 2.6.2 which is the latest one? How do I do this, I am a brand spankin newbie, so please be gentle.

Thank you kindly

i'm sure mandrake has kernel packages you can d/l, but to make your own goto kernel.org and get the full source (since i'm assuming you don't have full source yet -- otherwise they would prefer you be nice to their bandwith and just get the patch) and build...

the 2.6 kernel build generally consists of:
make xconfig
make modules install install

take your time on the config part -- this is really important... and verify it installed correctly, you might have to straighten it out a bit...

Take a look at http://www.mandrakeclub.com/article.php?sid=1745 for detailed instructions. I think and hope that page is accessible without your having to be a member of MandrakeClub (I am a member).

I was very apprehensive first time I updated the kernel, but I found out it's easier than a lot of other operations. So don't be afraid to try it.
