need to transfer files from CentOS to WD external HD
 

Out of the box and connected to the CentOS box via a UBS I can see the WD ex_HD but I am unable to transfer files and folders from the CentOS to the WD ex_HD. Even the "create folder" option is grey. What am I missing? I'm trying to back up a rather large set of folders fromthe CentOS to the WD ex_HD

My first question is how you prepared the filesystem on the external hdd?

I assume that is because you have the external hard drive formatted as NTFS.

To do this you need to use something like NTFS-3G drivers.
