need to know few terms/buzz words/keywords/basics


I am having redhat linux 9.0


1)

I dont what is the difference between "LINUX KERNAL" and "FEDORA CORE"
If i want to upgrade my linux("what to say" ) kernal/fedora core i need to know this difference...

bcoz then only i can download any of them and do whatever i want....
May if i am using Suse or some other linux flavour i would be clear in wha tiam doing

what is the difference between "KDE" and "GNOME" ?
does KDE has any relationship with "KERNAL"?

can some one help me to solve my confusion

I'm sure Google can help with these, Google is really nice. KDE and GNOME are desktop environments, the kernel is the base, userspace programs talk to other userspace programs or libraries which talk to the kernel. It handles low level operations like memory paging, disk IO, devices and other stuff like that. Fedora Core is a linux distrobution, it's a bundle of programs chucked on a CD that make life easier for you.

Now go type the underlined bits into Google or maybe dictionary.reference.com and it'll make sense.
