need to install motherboard drivers?

I've done a search, but want to make certain I won't need to install my motherboard drivers for Ubuntu 7.04 like I had to do with windows. I'm getting a new hard drive and want to try out Ubuntu. Will my audio, etc. drivers automatically be recognized and in working order? If not, how would I install them to get on the internet, e.g.? Would I have to update my nvidia driver; and if so how would I do that? Is this what the wine application is for? Any advice much appreciated.

Any necessary drivers should ship with Ubuntu. Ubuntu install should provide a live cd to test the OS out first, this is a good way to see if the default drivers will work, dont mind the slow speed, as it is on the CD, the OS will be slow. You could do this test right now if you want, as a live cd doesn't touch your harddrive, just be careful not to hit the install button and read everything carefully just to be sure.

Any drivers should be installed thru Ubuntus package manager (whatever they are calling it nowdays). As a last resort, you can use your web browser to download them off the internet from Nvidia, but this is a complex process and its most likely that Ubuntu doesn't come with the necessary packages needed to install 3rd party drivers, further complicating the issue.

Wine has nothing to do with drivers, it only emulates the win32 libraries (.dlls in Windows) to allow Windows programs to run on Linux under Wine. Because Wine runs in user space, it would be very hard to use it for drivers, if not completely pointless.

So basically: test by booting with the live CD option from the menu the installer might display (unless they changed that). Anyways, just dont click/press "install" unless your sure and it might not do anything (you could remove the harddrive if you want, just to be safe).

Thanks, SciYro, that answers the quesiton for me; and I appreciate your help. With regards to my clumsily posed wine question, I was just wondering if I would be able to install drivers, etc. from a windows oriented disk with wine. But I gather that's really technical and best handled by the package manager or terminal. Cheers.
