Need lots of help
 

I have an assignment for a class I'm taking where we installed Fedora Core 4 and now have to do some work on the command line, anyway, what we have to are thse things:[list=1][*]List all files in the root directory (done)[*]Show the file sizes (done)[*]Copy both a file and a folder to a new location (done)[*]Make a new file (done)[*]Make a new folder (done)[*]Move a file and a folder to a new location (done)[*]Change the permissions of the file you created (done)[*]Edit the file you created (done)[*]Start the graphical user interface (GUI)[*]Stop the GUI[*]In the GUI, create multiple desktops[*]Make two new accounts, one for an administrator, one for a regular user[*]Define and set the network connection settings[*]Move a file or folder between your machine and another[*]Print the history of your completed tasks[/list=1]

I've gotten the first eight done easily, and I'm pretty sure I'll be able to find everything past ten, but I can't seem to find the answers to nine or ten. If anyone has any advice, I would really appreciate it.

You use the command "startx" (without the quotes) for no. 9. For 10, I'm not sure.

to stop the gui you can either simply user the logout function provided by the desktop exvironment you are using, or a very unclean way is:
hit ctrl+alt+f1 and hit ctrl+c
but i dont think anyboy will be impressed with the last solution :-)

To stop the gui (runlevel 5) there are various ways since you boot to a console (runlevel 3)

1. use logout from the menu
2. ctrl-alt-backspace
3. open a console, init 3, or maybe telinit 3

Not only is your teacher helping you to learn things about linux, the real lesson that he/she is teaching you is research.
