Smile Need Linux on an i7 Xidax computer

I have a Xidax laptop running Windows 7. I have been looking around, studying and stuff and have decided to start with a Linux package. I wish to have security and anonymity as the end result. My reasoning my seem hokey but I study everything reasonable that I can find about extraterrestrials which brings - uh - stuff that I decide to become vanished.

What I would like is to run Linux from my laptop, keeping Win 7 as needed. Is this possible. If I have to run Linux from a cd, I will. Thanks.

Thumbs up On the other Hand

I have the Lenox cd created and it launches but Tor won't launch and I certainly don't know how to configure the proxy stuff.

I'm going to try the How-To's which I just saw I shoulda done first. Thanks. The above icon is meant to be a hand - but...............

You have no more security or anonymity using Linux than you do using Windows. Both security and anonymity are processes and not products.
If you are just looking into UFOs you don't need any more of either security or anonymity than anybody else in the world. I you are doing something a government doesn't want you to do then you need to do a lot more reading before even beginning to think about which operating system to use.

Smile Thanxs

Well what it is is Tails which I believe is a Lenox baby of some sort. It also uses Tor. I was having trouble with Tor launching because - I think - there is some configuration needed with the proxy settings which I know nothing about. I'm a Lightwave 3D sort of person basically. Thanks.

Tor has been having some problems with persons unnamed seizing output nodes and threatening to impound their directory servers recently, not sure whether that has anything to do with it.
If you need to use Tor to get around your government then think very hard about whether simply using Tor marks you out for further investigation whether Tor is still secure or not.

The aim of any privacy or security scheme is to find who you are trying to protect the information from and what you need to be able to do.
For example, Tor is not good for watching HD video or downloading torrents as it wasn't designed for high bandwidth.

Hello 273: Yeah, the Tails site spoke of that but I figured I wasn't important enough. I'll be looking for another solution. Thanks.

Smile Edward Snowden

"An international survey of Internet users has found that more than 39% have taken steps to protect their online privacy and security as a result of spying revelations by one-time NSA employee Edward Snowden."
and
"Snowden's whistleblowing changed habits of over 700 million people" by gjohnsit

Edward Snowden received another human rights award in Berlin this week. He was awarded a human rights award from Sweden earlier this month.

And much more. I suppose I can get away with sharing this. It comes from the Daily Kos

as "273" STATED

security is A PROCESS !!!

OPSEC!!!!!!

it is NOT software

if you want to use tails and the tor onion router for normal everyday use

you WILL HATE IT AND REMOVE IT FROM THE COMPUTER IN ONE DAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
--- OR LESS-----

also if you try to use it for NORMAL everyday use
you can not

if you hack tails / iceweasel ( firefox) to use FLASH plugins
you CAN BE TRACED VERY EASY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

if you install movie plugins in iceweasel
you CAN BE TRACED VERY EASY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

if you allow
<iframes>
Java
Flash
and JAVASCRIPT
you CAN BE TRACED VERY EASY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

if you do not remove ALL cookies before changing to a NEW web site
you CAN BE TRACED VERY EASY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

if you turn off HTTPS everywhere
-- you ? might be able to be tracked

if you enter the "tor" network form HOME 90+% of the time
YOUR HOME WILL BE FOUND!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
through statistical analysis !

Smile I understand.

As I said before: I'll be looking for another solution. I also included the Snowden refs as a a more fleshed out reason for wanting anonymity than just following ufo's.

Thank you never-the-less for your thoughtful response. To reiterate, I do understand. I'm even closing all social accounts.
