need linux help installing flash
 

have question, went to adobe.com and no help to be found installing flash on kde, downloaded .kde file to root, just need help where to unpack or install the code to what directoreis??

i never had much luck with codecs & plugins for konqueror, i do have lots of luck with plugins & codecs with firefox & seamonkey, just unpack the codecs & plugins to ~/.mozilla/plugins and restart your browser...

I really suggest reading this thread. Its well described where to put the flash plugin files.

Flash in konqueror works fine for me.
I make it work this way:
Copy or link 'libflashplayer.so' to /usr/lib/kde/plugins (probably /opt/kde3/lib...in suse)
(There is a plugin-setup / search in konqueror so in fact it should find it by itself,
but may be flash is not supported ??)

i am a little more used to ff in suse, but i went to slackware 12.0 becausae of hardware issues, anyway the libflashplayer.so is not in root ,,, i downed a .rpm file for KDE,,, not sure how to unpack this, is it the same as the .tar.gz files>>>>????? just unzip .rpm???? kde seems to be more command oriented ,,,, can't find YAST yet ,,,, but today is day ONE ,,,, again thanks for the help .....

looks like the plugins for konqueror reside in /usr/lib .... there
is no /usr/lib/kde folder .... i guess it claims the whole directory as home .... there are ALOT of .so and .la files to be found ....
but, again i don't know how to unpack a .rpm file in shell, what is the command????

To install RPMs using the command line, you use the command "rpm". Obviously read the man page for info on how to use it.

any other way???
 

.rpm man page give a whole lot of switches ..... but,
rpm - i flash-plugin-9.0.124.0-release.i386.rpm just gives a list of dependencies that are inadequate .... much to many for me ....
is there an easier way to unpack this dude??????

If you're using Slackware, you need the .tar.gz file not the .rpm. The instructions on how to install it are on the Adobe download page. It's also been covered in a few threads on these forums. Try the Search button.

If it's any help, you can use Firefox with any Linux distro. Personally, I'm a hardcore Firefox user and advocate. Konqueror is a great file manager, but lacks sorely in the web browser department.

If you choose to go that route, once FF is installed, use the FF plug-ins site to install Flash.

ok .... mucho gracias for all the help !!!!!
what worked is this:
download the .tar.gz file
unpack it according to inst on adobe
the folder konqueror resides in is still a mystery
so i switched as suggested back to mozilla firefox
the firefox plugin directory was easy to find ...
/usr/lib/mozilla/plugins/
even though adobe would like us to run the installer all that is necessary
is to cp libflashplayer.so over into the above folder and ALL IS GOOD ...
now for all the naysayers .... i DO use the "search" button but it is only so good on adobe .... and the hint about the man pages was useful as i never knew those were there ..... a little overwhelming when your looking for one answer in amongst 300 switches .... and yes there are pages already in here about flash .... but none of them were based on a kde platform in slackware .... i looked there FIRST before i posted AS ALWAYS .... but each person in their own way helped me along and motivated me ....
