I loaded Linux 6.10 a month or so ago, not knowing that Linux has to be loaded in a succession of steps, as 6.10, then 7.04 then 7.10 and then 8.04 where I am trying to get to, but can't get there from here.
I want to load 8.04 but am unable to until after I
load 7.04 then 7.10.
Else, clear everything and start from scratch. Don't want to do that.
Can anyone tell me where I may find 7.04 and 7.10 downloads or CD's?
Distribution: S l a c kware 12.1, Ubuntu 8.04, Windows XP Pro

I don't think or I am pretty sure no such thing as Linux OS exists and its a kernel. So I will assume its Ubuntu(The chilled out OS)
You cant go from 6.10 to 8.04 without getting the 7.04 and 7.10? I really would suggest do a fresh install. I know it sounds dissapointing but the change must be very different. I used 7.10 and the transition to 8.04 was a bit tough. Besides, I have seen many problems resulted in upgrades.
BTW, how are you using 6.10?? Seems very strange. Foremost how did you get your hands on it during 2008?

Correct, it is Ubuntu, not 'real' Linux. (Told you I was 'newbie, e.g. stupid'.

how did I get my hands on Ubuntu 6.10? i purchased a book called 'beginning ubuntu linux' by keir thomas of version 6.10, and it had a cd included.

This is why I always tell people who get those books, always check and make sure the CD is the current verison. The books are a wealth of info, but most of the time, the CD is horribly outdated. I was at Fry's about 2mo ago, and saw what looked like an Informative Fedora book. Picked it up and was taking a browse through, and turn to the back to look at the CD... Fedora Core 4. For those who may not know, Fedora's current stable release is Fedora 9, and Fedora 10 has just entered Alpha testing..
You probably went the best route to get this fixed, despite the fact it was probably a pain.
