need help with X windows
 

I have red hat 9 in my system.i use a text login.when i startx the nvidia screen comes then it goes off.The message x server shutting down is displayed.

I have put the required drivers and made necessary changes to XF86Config file at /ect/X11/.

My board is asus a7n266vm with integrated nvidia geforce 2 card.

Where could i get eazy info online about X windows and X configuration.

I am an absolute newbie and need help badly.:newbie:

what was the error message you got??also check /var/log/XFree.0.log for lines starting with 'ee' for errors.

my mobo is also a7n266vm.this is a good forum for X problems for nVidia cards.

There are no lines starting with (EE) in the log.The x used to work fine.I was not satisfied with the screen resolution so i changed it to 1024x756.I think then only the problem started.

Did the problem start after installing the nvidia drivers, or was it just after changing resolution?

If it the only thing you changed was screen resolution that led to the misconfiguration, just log in as root and enter " redhat-config-xfree86" to change the resolution back and see if that works.
