Fedora 10 : There should be no problems with vlc and mplayer.
Haven't used xine.

Though using anything Fedora 12 = rawhide.repo's can trash
things. Please do this command :
rpm -qa | grep fc12 > rawhide.list
.. to see, what is happening.

You can try disabling all rawhide in yum.repos.d ( or move
the files away.)

And : # yum clean dbcache
.....

.. May be you will have to disable the rpmforge repo's.
.. And may be 'livna'.

The current information from vlc says rpmfusion only.

http://www.videolan.org/vlc/download-fedora.html

Rpmforge sometimes have some very new packages, and
'yum' will choose the latest version number.
But no guaranty, the the dependencies for these very new
packages exist.
