Need help with installing Linux from Free DOS

Hi, I bought a laptop that has Free DOS as it's OS. I want to install Linux, but I have no idea how. First of all I never used Linux before and have no idea how to install it. Second, I have no idea how to do anything in Free DOS except for typing help (which doesn't help at all).
I am a complete noob taking my first steps into Linux, so I would really appreciate if you explain everything in simple terms and step by step.

The first thing you need to do is decide which Linux distribution you want. You can go to the distrowatch site at the link below. On the right side of the page, there is a section titled Page Hit Ranking which lists the most popular distributions and has links to their home pages where you can get more information on specific distributions to help you decide. Posting information on what you need and what you will be using the computer for would enable others to give you suggestions.

You would then need to download the iso file, burn it as an image to a CD, set your computer to boot from the CD drive and begin the install. I would suggest reading some documentation on installing the specific distribution before beginning.

The only thing you need another OS (e.g. freedos) for is to download an iso image of a distribution and create a bootable CD. You can do so on the Windows machine (that you used to start this thread) as well.

Download an iso, burn the image to CD, boot from it (change the bootorder in the bios of necessary) and install.

Make sure that you burn as an image (after the burn you should have multiple files in the CD, not one file); also make sure that you burn at low speed.

How do I enter bios? I typed in bios and nothing happened.

Bios is the first thing you see when you power up your computer. When the first screen comes on it tells you what key to press (usually F1 or TAB) to enter the Bios menu area. Bios has nothing to do with Linux. You adjust the bios before you get to your OS (Linux, Windows, whatever).

It would help us to know more about this laptop.

I managed to install Linux. The only problem right now is getting used to it. It feels very different from windows that I'm so used to.
How to close this topic? It's no longer needs to exist

You mark the thread as "solved" using the "Thread Tools" menu on top of your first post of this topic. It's also customary and good manners to thank those who helped you.
