Need help with Airlink PCI on Linspire 4.5
 

Brand new to Linux. Have a new PC with Linspire 4.5 pre-installed and have added an unsupported wifi pci card: Airlink 54Mbps, 802.11g, Mdl AWLH3025, using Texas Instr chipset and driver tnet1130.inf Installed Windows driver for same using the ndisdriver.
ndisdriver -l reports driver present but no hardware. The light on the pci card is lit. The Network connection allows me to set ESSID and Channel. Cannot connect to internet.
iwconfig reports: lo no wireless extentions; eth0 no wireless extentions
Isn't there supposed to be something like wlan0 present. How do I setup this interface? What step did I miss?

A friend of mine ran into similar problems with his card (don't remember what it was), he ended up scrapping the thing. If I remember right, he got the hardware to detect by yanking the card and moving it to the pci slot closest to the agp slot (PCI 0). Not really a solution, but worth a try.

The ndiswrapper wiki says this:

"Where "present" means that you have a card that can be used with the driver installed. In this case, broadcom driver bcmwl5 is used. If you see "cannot locate lspci. Unable to see if hardware is present", you need to install the pciutils package."

Don't know what that will do, but might as well try it.

As always the easiest solution is to get a supported card. If you get fed up with this card, and want to try another one, put this site in your bookmarks/favorites.

Thanks for your response. I gave up on the wifi, yanked the card, uninstalled the driver and then hard wired to the router. Works fine now. I'll try again at a later date when I have more time and patience. Have had other suggestions on Linspire website.
