Need help setting up Xine

Well, I'm following the easy to follow instructions but obviously not well.

here is the part I'm stuck at:
Quote:
Download the latest xine-lib and gxine/xine-ui tarballs, then follow these instruction. To unpack a tarball, use:

tar xfvz tarballname.tar.gz

The following instructions will install xine in /usr/local for all users. You need root privileges to do this on most systems.

First unpack xine-lib, then:

./configure
make install
I can't do the ./configure make install

Anyone care to help?

Also, what is a good frontend for it?

open a shell, swtitch to root using "su" command,
cd into the directory where the
"tar xfvz tarballname.tar.gz" is,...run " gunzip tar xfvz tarballname.tar.gz" then run "tar -vif tar xfvz tarballname.tar"

hopfully its in RPM format if so run rpm -ivh ...(filename)...

Just do tar zxf file.tar.gz (xinelib first!)
cd file
./configure
make
make install

(And you might have to do 'export LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/usr/local/lib' before installing gxine)

then untar gxine and cd to the folder and do ./configure, make and make install again, and it should run.

d0nny:

It looks like you were missing the "make" stage. Open up a terminal, and do this (I'm assuming that you saved it to your home folder):
tar xfvz xine-lib-whateverversionnumber.tar.gz
cd xine-lib-whateverversionnumber
./configure
make
su
(enter root password)
make install
exit

Assuming the source for xine-lib is ok, and you have no other files that depend on it, the above should do the trick.

There is no front end that I know of for compiling from source.
Those last two are two separate commands.

Also, you need to have gcc on your machine.
