need help regarding booting linux... plz help

hi frnds.. i hav a problem booting linux on my system.. i've tried 3 flavours of linux slakeware 11, pclinuxos, ubuntu, but non seems to boot on my system..
When i installed slackware on my system it first gave an error message saying that "lilo cannot be loaded" n when i booted it, i got a black screen with a message saying that the gui failed to load. This was around 1 n half month back..
recently i downloaded this pclinuxos from the net n tried to use the 'LIVE CD' option in it. first the kernal loads then the loading continues to some 20% n then the system hangs.. i thought there might be some problem with the CD, but the same CD worked on my friend's system..
Yesterday i got this ubuntu live CD from my friend, tried it, but even that didn't load... it gives some message like..
/bin/sh cannot access tty;job option disabled..

I'd be glad if anyone can help...
my system configuration is..
dual core processor 2.66 ghz, intel D102GGC2 motherboard wit ati radon chipset..

I had a similar problem this week. I just purchased a Toshiba Satellite P205-S6337 notebook computer. PCLinuxOS 2007 Live CD wouldn't boot. I failed like your Ubuntu failed saying that it couldn't access the TTY or something similar.

The newest Knoppix worked pretty well. It booted to a console prompt but I could run startx and it would successfully start the X software. But, I didn't want to use Knoppix.

I ended up performing a network installation of Debian Etch. I downloaded the netinst CD but you could download the business card network installation CD. Once Debian was installed it wouldn't run the X software. It was like the Knoppix. It stopped booting when it got to a console prompt. When I logged in it wouldn't start the X software.

I booted the Knoppix and copied the /etc/X11/xorg.conf file from the running Knoppix system to the Debian system. That fixed Debian. Now Debian boots fine.

You might try something similar. Find a distribution whose live CD or live DVD works. If you like that distribution then install it. If you don't like it then it still might help you to work out problems with a distribution that you do like but isn't working completely.

Here is a list of live-CD distributions:

Suse linux is supposed to be a very user-friendly distribution. I have not used it myself.
