Need help Installing VLC Media Player update Yellow Dog Linux 6.2

I recently installed VLC Media Player 0.8.6 in Yellow Dog Linux 6.2 on my PS3 by following this procedure...

http://news.softpedia.com/news/How-t...1-101664.shtml

I then used the Firefox add-on MediaPlayerConnectivity (0.9.2) to link video files for Quick Time, Real Video, Flash (FLV)etc... to VLC as the default player for these video formats. (Note: I had to manually add VLC as the FLV default player, b/c MediaPlayerConnectivity did not automatically do this.)

Now...on Youtube when I double-click on the little movie film icon to play the streaming file through VCL the player opens, but neither the video or audio play even though I have VLC setup as the default player. I have tried playing some Quick Time (mov) and Windows Media Video (WMV) streaming video and they work fine. I noticed that there's a new update (0.9.5) for VLC. Do I need that update to make sure Youtube (flv files) video will play? If so, how do I install the 0.9.5 update after downloading it in Yellow Dog Linux 6.2? Please give step by step instructions as I am still new at this.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Me also

Just aquired a PS3, put ydl6.2 on it with no real issues.
And managed to install vlc also, but, like you, i cant suss out how to get the latest version. Its a long winded walk ive taken to get to this stage but i cannot get the latest version to install. I get errors about system 10 missing and that i have to compile it etc etc.
This is my first venture into a non-MS os and i can see why linux is considered the outsider. It might be more stable (perhaps) but its not as easy to configure and set up.
But, this isnt helping us. What point do you get to and then get stuck???

As mentioned in my post I got stuck when I found out VLC (0.8.6) would open when I click the movie film icon on the Youtube video but wouldn't play the video/audio at all. That's where I'm at now. I never attempted to install VLC 0.9.5 yet as I don't know how to. I have read in different forums on the net that even though there's an update it's not always best to install it right away. Sometimes the update may need re-working and sometimes not before installing. It's apparently not like using Windows and doing a simple update. In Linux it appears things have very specific steps you have to follow before installing anything. MediaPlayerConnectivity I think threw up the first red flag when it didn't automatically choose VLC as the default FLV player. That made me think that MediaPlayerConnectivity didn't think it could play FLV files from Youtube and of course it didn't. I know VLC should play FLV video, but maybe there's a new update required by Youtube to play FLV files. I'm hoping that VLC 0.9.5 has that update.

My issues is vlc plays in full screen, but if you attempt to come out of it, i get a blank black screen with sound playing and i cannot get it to stop. I have to powerdown the ps3. I am sure that its been addressed in the newer versions, as has flv playback.

Actually I had that problem also in the Enlightment desktop. I restarted Yellow Dog and before I enter my user name I changed the session (desktop) to Gnome. Gnome doesn't seem to have a problem with the full screen issue. Apparently there is a way of adjusting Enlightenment to fix the full screen issue, but I didn't bother looking into it.
