need help installing tar.gz file and pycrypto file

File #1. This was my instruction: downoad ActivePython 2.7.X for Windows (x86) from http://www.activestate.com/activepython/downloads

So I did and I got a tar.gz file. Screenshot 130.

I tried to install this every which way. I followed the documentation, which said I was to install the install.sh file. I got to the file but simply couldn't install it. Attaching second screenshot (131) with what seemed to me to be the instructions for installing it.

My main instructions were explicitly:

Install ActiveState Python 2.7.x. Accept all defaults.

File #2. My instructions were to download

PyCrypto 2.1 for 32bit Windows and Python 2.7 from http://www.voidspace.org.uk/python/m...shtml#pycrypto
(PyCrypto downloads as a zip file. You will need to unzip it.)

So I downloaded the file and with some LQ help (thanks!) unzipped it.

I have not attempted to install this one yet. In my newbie mind I am thinking all I have to do is run the file I unzipped to my desktop. Here's the file (attachment 132). But when I right click on the file there are several options for running it:
  • open w/archive manager
  • open w/mono runtime (terminal)
  • open w/Wine Windows Program Loader
  • open w/other application
  • create archive

I, again in my newbie-ness, would think the Wine Windows Program Loader would be the way to go because part of the overall instructions were:

Install Wine for 32-bit x86. (e.g. on Ubuntu, Open the Ubuntu Software Center, search for Wine, and install "Wine Windows Program Loader".)

My main instructions were explicitly:

Install PyCrypto 2.1. Accept all defaults.

Thanks very much!

Hi,

what OS are you trying to install this on? If on a Linux machine, why are you trying to use the windows version?

Sorry guys. This was all wrong-headed from the get-go. I'm abandoning it. (I'll mark the thread "Solved" so people won't waste their time checking it.)
