need help installing bonzai linux! startx not working...

hey all. newbie here, i am currently using puppy linux and want to install a small linux OS on my hd. i downloaded and installed bonzai linux which i believe is debian. i dont know much about linux at all. i tried using startx to boot to the desktop but it says "command not found"

heres the little info i have.

when i installed it said "since you decided not to install KDE.." didnt catch the rest but i never saw an option to install it.

i have no connection to the internet unless im running puppy linux from cd.

i have 256mb ram and a 40g HD.

i made a linux partition and a linux swap partition. i dont even know what im doing i just made the swap really small (dont know what its for)

thats all i can think of now. please help!!! i want to get this running...

If it says command not found when you type startx it means you don't have X installed. X is the GUI. CLI will work fine, or else you will need to install X and a Desktop Environment (KDE, Gnome, XFCE, or LXDE).

i would like to have a typical looking desktop. does that mean i should install x and kde?

CLI means "command line interface" so if you have any kind of working linux you have that. I would suggest you reinstall from the Puppy CD and answer "yes" when it asks you if you want KDE. KDE is reasonably typical (whatever that means).
cheers,
jdk
