need help in 2 areas

I have upgraded to 10.10 and I have several documents in my document folder. I go to places, documents and click and nothing happens, this was not an issue in 10.04. I am new and was wondering if this is fixable or is it a new thing in 10.10.

Second is this, I would like to re-install 10.04 and get to the place on the install and don't want to erase whole drive...xp on 1/2 of it...don't want to install it beside 10.10 and xp. I chose the other option and don't know how to proceed with formatting the ext4 and setting boot up again. Could someone talk me through it so I don't loose the xp side. I can wipe the drive and do both set ups again, but would really like to learn how to do this.

The first part of your post is a duplicate of this thread. Please don't do that, keep your issues in one thread only.

To your second part, when it comes to partitioning during the install choose to do manual partition. Then just choose your 10.10 partition for your new /-partition and your swap-partition as new swap. For the boot-loader you can choose the default settings.

BACKUP YOUR FILES BEFORE REINSTALLING.

Thanks, I am new and didn't get an answer to resolve the first question, and couldn't find it again...maybe I need to know how to find my threads again.

The second part, I know it sounds easy, but, is there step by step directions I can print for this. Would really like to learn how to do this as I have 4 computers running different versions of linux and like to reload versions
