need help getting ubuntu laptop to work with networked win7 machines

I have an old laptop in which I loaded Ubuntu 14.04.1 and it seems to work fine so far... I also have a couple of windows PC's running win 7 and 8 which are using a wirelessly connected Brother MFC-J870DW printer. I would like to add the laptop into the network and be able to access the printer. Can someone help me with some directions?

Thank you very much

It sounds like all you need to do is set up the printer. Since the printer is wireless, you can connect to it directly, the fact that there are other machines on the network also connecting to the printer (and the OS on those machines) is irrelevant.

Let's see if this works:

If not, just search for your printer model on brother's site and download the .deb driver for it. Then you should be able to install it with dpkg:

Talking It works!

It took me a few days and some re-installs, but I have the printer working with windows and Ubuntu. Thank you very much...
