I have a Toshiba laptop that I made dual boot with opensuse 11.0 / windows vista with wireless lan and am trying to setup a wired network printer (canon mx700: multifunction printer, scanner, fax )
Network Adapter: Canon MX700 series Printer: Canon MX700 series Get IP address automatically Use following IP address: IP Address: 192.168.0.4 Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0 Default Gateway: 192.168.0.1 ------------------------------ samba and cups are installed ----------------------------- how do I configure cups ? or do I even configure cups ----------------------------- using the yast suse printer config wizard which do I choose for Network Printer print via LDP-style network server via SMB network server via IPX network server or print directly to a network printer ----------------------------- Hostname of Print server ----------------------------- do I have a remote que ----------------------------- where can I update the list of printers to select my printer ----------------------------- am I overlooking something simple (to be the true newbie) ------------------------------ is there an explicit HOW-TO , I have searched and read many forums |
I would start with "print directly to a network printer".
The big question--especially with Canon--is whether there will be a driver. As part of the install process, you'll be given a list. If yours is there, you are on your way. If not, something similar may work. I now prefer to use the cups web interface (localhost:631 in the browser url line), but the SUSE utility should be fine. I followed as you mentioned and the install went ok but there was no driver specifically for my canon printer so I am trying other drivers, hopefully I will find one
