need help configuring a network printer w/ opensuse 11.0
 
I have a Toshiba laptop that I made dual boot with opensuse 11.0 / windows vista with wireless lan and am trying to setup a wired network printer (canon mx700: multifunction printer,scanner, fax )

Network Adapter: Canon MX700 series
Printer: Canon MX700 series

Get IP address automatically

Use following IP address:
IP Address: 192.168.0.4
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway: 192.168.0.1

how do I configure cups ? or do I even configure cups

using the yast suse printer config wizard which do I choose for
Network Printer

print via LDP-style network server
via SMB network server
via IPX network server
or print directly to a network printer

I would start with "print directly to a network printer".

The big question--especially with Canon--is whether there will be a driver. As part of the install process, you'll be given a list. If yours is there, you are on your way. If not, something similar may work.

I now prefer to use the cups web interface (localhost:631 in the browser url line), but the SUSE utility should be fine.

I followed as you mentioned and the install went ok but there was no driver specifically for my canon printer so I am trying other drivers, hopefully I will find one
